Top Rope Instructor Leadership Certification
$400 (2 days instruction) and $35 (1/2 day exam) | Carderock, MD or Great Falls, VA | Top rope experience recommended
East Outdoors is proud to offer a streamlined, affordable Top Rope Instructor Leadership Certification program designed to teach best practices and hands-on skills for organizations to facilitate successful top rope climbing events with youth climbers. Our program trains prospective instructors, camp counselors, Scout troop leaders, and all others who work with young climbers to the standards set by the State of Maryland and prepares them to handle emergencies as well as routine climbing functions.
Our TILC program covers the basics and beyond of top rope climbing systems as well as the soft skills of teaching climbing effectively and creating a successful, fun experience for all participants. The half-day exam tests proficiency with all core technical and teaching skills, and results in a certification valid for three years.

The basics and beyond of building strong, solid top rope anchors in varied terrain
Climbing systems for guided trips, including elevated masterpoint anchors and backed-up institutional rappels
Top-rope rescue tactics including belay escapes and climber pickoffs
