A week of immersive outdoor discovery in the region’s best backcountry areas with multi-pitch trad climbing, summit bids on Seneca Rocks, rappelling, hiking in the Dolly Sods wilderness, and more.

All camps are led by professional guides with American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) and high-level wilderness first aid certifications and are designed by East Outdoors founder Tim Murphy, MSW, who brings decades of youth instruction and program administration experience working with youth in the outdoors in wilderness therapy programs, camps, and guided climbing.

Team trips are led by nationals-level youth competitive climbing coaches with extensive experience working with young climbers.

Seneca Rocks trips partner with Seneca Rocks Climbing School for multi-pitch climbing with AMGA- and wilderness first aid-certified multi-ptich guides.

All meals are included and will be prepared on-site. Meals are simple and nourishing, prepared and served family-style. Some meals are participatory campfire activities.

Breakfast: Eggs, campfire potatoes, sausage or other protein, cereal bar, bagel bar

Lunch and snacks: Sandwich bar, trail mix, fresh fruit

Dinner: Campfire packet dinners, pasta bar, taco bar, campfire pizza, burgers

Weather moves fast in the mountain valleys we’re exploring - we’ll continue outdoor activities in light rain and switch to indoor activities, ground school, and games in heavily inclement weather. Camp is about enjoying and getting comfortable being outdoors—in all kinds of weather!

We have a camp for any enthusiastic teen climber!

Redpoint trips are for serious team athletes or other young climbers with equivalent experience top-roping, bouldering, and lead climbing indoors.

Adventure trips are open to any climber who has basic belay and climbing experience, indoors or out.

All fitness levels are welcome! Our guides are experts at choosing areas and routes to make sure all students find success.

All camps involve hiking with a pack, sometimes on steep terrain, and being outdoors for extended periods.

We will send a detailed gear list as part of our welcome letter six weeks before your camp.

• Climbing harness, shoes, and helmet

• Personal sleeping gear (sleeping bag, mat, and pillow)

• Towel and personal hygiene items

• Weather-appropriate clothing for a week in the outdoors, including a rain jacket

• Comfortable clothes for camp and sleeping

• Closed-toe trail sneakers, approach shoes, or hiking boots

• Camp shoes or sandals

• A journal, cards, art supplies, or any other hobby supplies

We provide:

• A crag day pack to keep

• A 32-oz water bottle to keep

• All kitchen and meal supplies

• All group climbing gear

• 4-person tent accommodations

• First aid supplies

All camps are a strict drug- and alcohol-free zones for campers and guides. Any violation of this policy or other behavior that threatens the safety of campers and guides will result in removal from camp. Self-administered medications are held for collection by camp staff with the exception of emergency medications (Epi-Pens, etc.)

Most of the areas we go to have adequate cell service, except at Seneca Rocks. WiFi to check in with home is available at select locations at Seneca Rocks, including at the base camp of our partner Seneca Rocks Climbing School. We recognize phones are an integral part of many people’s lives but encourage campers to unplug, enjoy immersion in the moment, and limit phone use to afternoon and evening rec periods.

Camp is, above all, an opportunity for teen climbers to confidently transition outdoors with pro training in climbing best practices. All camps include safety training, technical systems knowledge, nature awareness, and risk assessment as part of daily activities. Our goal is to teach campers the skills and awareness to keep themselves safe as they progress on their own after camp.

All camps are staffed by AMGA and wilderness first aid-trained guides coordinating with camp managers; in frontcountry areas guides carry cell phones, while in backcountry guides have radios tuned to a manned base station.

Our camps are certified, insured, and permitted as required by the WV Department of Natural Resources, the National Parks Service, and the Monongahela National Forest.

Our youth protection policy and staff training are designed to accord with ACA and BSA recommendations. Accommodations and restrooms are split by age and gender and all activities maintain a strict 2:1 or 1:2 minimum adult:camper ratio.
